They're not actually cubes, but we had both had previous jobs where we definitely had very cube-shaped cubicles and it became this weird long-running joke about cubes that is impossible to explain and also makes me break out laughing at random cube-shaped objects I encounter in the world.

Right now the desks on either side of me are empty, one because the woman is on maternity leave, and the other because the person who usually works there is on a temporary assignment elsewhere.
